Using the Flourish Grant from Oregon Well-Being Trust, the wellness team has provided many wellness opportunities, such as snow tubing, cross-country skiing, on-site chair massage, a Women on Weights club, in-service lunch days, self-defense and art classes, and the very popular soup-and-smoothie delivery during workdays.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties of the position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Follows and maintains knowledge of all applicable District and department policy(ies) and procedures.
- Drives school buses or any District Pupil Transporting Vehicle on regularly scheduled routes, field trips, and other types of District approved trips. Could include vehicles equipped for wheel chairs and other special needs.
- Transport students with special needs inside and out District.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding students being transported.
- Obeys all traffic laws and observes State of Oregon standards and regulations regarding the transportation of students, as well as Defensive Driving Techniques.
- Demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of all state and local laws and regulations pertaining to the operation of the vehicle he/she will be expected to drive.
- Demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of the location, operation, purpose and use of all controls, instruments, gauges and emergency equipment on the vehicle he/she will operate.
- Demonstrates the necessary physical skills and mental ability to safely and efficiently operate the vehicle as determined by the certified training officer.
- Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of state, local and District regulations involving the responsibilities of bus drivers, including those dealing with student management, discipline procedures, public relations and related items.
- Exhibits a familiarity with any route he/she will be required to drive.
- Exercise sound judgement in driving in varying weather conditions, on all types of roads and in changing traffic conditions.
- Operate and service high school bus equipment and accessories such as doors, windows, radios, fire extinguishers, highway warning kits, tire chains, first aid and body fluid kits, and seat belt cutter.
- Coordinates with other school districts as well as parents regarding daily route schedules and operations of schools.
- May be required to plan and develop route change as necessary.
- Follows accident/emergency procedures and exhibits a competency to handle emergency situations, including first aid.
- Maintains a record of trip mileage, number of passengers, number of stops, etc. as required by supervisor.
- Manages student efficiently; maintains safety and order when students are on the bus; reports undisciplined students to the appropriate administrator.
- Keeps assigned bus exterior and interior clean; checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects; notifies the transportation supervisor in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
- Picks up and discharges students only at authorized stops; transports only those students on the route list or those who have obtained a bus pass.
- Reports all accidents and completes required reports and paperwork in an accurate and timely manner.
- Reports all incidents which need to be brought to the attention of the Transportation Coordinator on the appropriate District form.
- Works collaboratively with District and building administrators as well as other Transportation Department staff to provide reliable service to customers.
- Keeps appropriate confidentiality as required by law regarding student and staff information.
- Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, administrators and parents, and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
- Communicates clearly with coworkers and other staff.
- Dress professionally for the position.
- Provide impeccable customer service.
- Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records and inquiries.
- Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students.
- Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
- Attends work daily as assigned and is punctual.
- Adheres to daily schedule.
SPECIALIZED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Specialized duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position may perform the following task, which may require the employee to attend specialized training. Additional compensation will be made for performing the action listed below.
Completes and implements training as needed regarding special needs of students and demonstrates sensitivity to the students being transported.
QUALIFICATIONS

- Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to interact calmly with students, and to maintain concentration and patience in noisy and distracting conditions. Possess a sincere desire to work with students and become familiar with the handicapping condition of each student.
- Language Skills: Ability to communicate fluently both verbally and in writing in English. Ability to follow written directions. Must possess basic telephone and office skills.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruction in written, oral, schedule or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in a variety of situations.
- Technology Skills: Basic computer skills required, including the ability to receive, send, and communicate by email and complete basic data entry on computer.
- Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to appropriately communicate with students, teachers, administrators, parents, vendors and members of the community. Ability to exercise good judgment and work in an environment with constant distractions. Ability to use District provided technology.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Certificates as determined by the District, including a valid Oregon Driver’s license, Class A preferred, and a First Aid/CPR card. Must be able to obtain and maintain Class A (or B) License and an Oregon Department of Education School Bus Drivers Certificate.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required walk; use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to sit for prolonged periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 60 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. The employee may assist well and/or physically impaired students on and off the bus through passenger service door. The employee must demonstrate sufficient strength and agility to move about the bus to assist students with evacuation in case of emergency. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception and peripheral vision.
